Why Isn’t It Free?

Good question:

  1. We are advertising and spam free. There will not be any follow up offers or enticements to buy from us. I am a skeptical down loader, myself, and decline a lot of free offers because I worry about there being a “catch.” In addition, I am paying a premium to the download and payment processing people so they will not forward other offers to you. In this case, you really do get ONLY what you pay for.
  2. The faces have stood the test of time and are copyrighted artwork from a Pulitzer prize artist. There are expenses associated with licensing the rights to use the artwork as well as enforcing those copyrights.
  3. I need the money! Seriously, the Mood Guru is not a hook to drive ad revenue or to purchase something else. It is the product and stands alone as a revenue source. As charming as the Happy face may be, he has to pay his own bills. The developer, attorney, licensor, insurance company, web host and others have a pretty good “not happy face” when they do not get paid.
  4. The idea was born from my family’s use of the refrigerator magnet. I know it can be a very cool thing and a great way to promote communication. My intent in development was to focus on those special relationships. Charging helps to insure it does not become a watered down second by second status updater. There are really good free programs that do a much better job of that.
